About Nerdy Chic

I’m Lisa, my pronouns are she/her. I’ve been a professional computer nerd for most of my adult life and a hobby one since childhood. Here are some highlights:

💻 I got my first computer when I was 4 years old (it was supposed to be my dad’s but I took it over pretty quickly) and I taught myself DOS commands so that I could get to my dinosaur game. I really loved dinosaurs, still do!

🐎 Like many teen girls I was absolutely enamored with horses. In the mid-90s text-based games you could play on the internet were fairly popular (okay, maybe not that popular if you weren’t a total geek…) and I thought it would be fun to play one about horses. I couldn’t find one, so I built my own. It eventually had so many players that it was too much for me to handle so I handed it off to another person who wanted to keep the game going.

🍎 At 16 I did the scariest thing imaginable and left all my friends behind to switch high schools in Grade 11 so that I could attend a special tech program. I graduated as the top student in the program and made new friends. It worked out!

🎓 After graduating from university I spent my evenings and weekends taking continuing studies at the British Columbia Institute of Technology to keep adding to my coding repertoire. I was working corporate front end development jobs at the time, and not making a lot or getting very interesting projects. I knew that more was possible.

💸 Eight years ago my partner and I decided to strike out on our own. Our affiliate marketing company reached multiple six figures within 2 years. I also owned a pole dance studio at one point, but that’s another story for another day!

📱 Right now I work with a variety of independent businesses to provide custom solutions for their websites and ecommerce stores. And starting now: mobile apps too!

🌟 My hero is Dolly Parton, my ultimate goal in life is to engage in philanthropy on the same level that she does.
